Will the REAL Food Please Stand Up?!

Sounds like a silly thing to say, but it needs to be addressed.  I’ve got to rant about something for a moment.

Lately I see commercial after commercial advertising food “products” that have “added fiber” or “added calcium” or “added protein” or “added vitamins”  or “added vitamin c”.  Some people see those and think, “ohhh! That’s healthier because it has extra fiber put into it.”

No.  No my friends… the answer is NO.

Stop for a moment and think about the produce section of your market or grocery store.  You see heaps of apples, tomatoes, greens, veggies, fruits… do you see giant signs attached to the apples that say, “now with added fiber!”  or a pile of spinach with a label attached that says, “new! now with extra vitamin C and sugar free!” ????

No.  You don’t.  Ever wonder why?  Ever wonder why fruits and veggies don’t have giant signs and labels on them trying to sell you or convince you of their nutritional value???  It’s because THEY ARE NUTRITIOUS! They don’t need to sell you on it.  They are packed full of enzymes, vitamins, amino acids, and live energy!  You don’t need to add fiber, calcium, protein, sugar-substitutes, or extra vitamins to them, because they are REAL FOOD.  Not fake food.

What do I mean by fake food?  Hmm..let’s see.  Can someone please point out an apple tree to me?  Oh!  Right there?  Thank you.  Now, can someone please point out a nacho flavored chip tree to me?  No?  Keep looking!  Still can’t find it?  That’s because IT ISN’T REAL FOOD!  It doesn’t exist.

I mean really.  Why don’t they just take a box of cardboard like chemical substances, flavor them with corn syrup, sugar, toss in some nuts and make kids eat it for breakfast.  Oh wait, that’s right, they already do.  It’s called cereal.  And to get parents to buy it, they stick on labels that say, “now with added fiber and calcium!”

You want your fiber and calcium?  Then just eat the real FOOD that already contains it!

1 cup of raspberries contains 8 grams of fiber
1 cup of lentils, black beans, or peas contains around 16 grams of fiber
1 cup of broccoli, turnips, sweet corn, brussel sprouts all contain around 5 grams of fiber
1 cup of brown rice is around 5 grams of fiber
1 pear has 5.5 grams of fiber
1 apple has about 4.5 grams of fiber
1 cup of spinach has as much calcium as a glass of milk!  (around 245-300 mg)
1/4 cup of sesame seeds has 351 mg of calcium
1 cup of collard greens has 266 mg of calcium
1 cup of kale has 94 mg of calcium
1 papaya has 73 mg of calcium

…the list goes on and on!

EAT REAL FOOD!  STOP eating FAKE food!   Cheese flavored chips that come in a box are NOT food.  They are products that were made in a factory using machines and chemicals.   There is no cheese-flavored-chip tree anywhere in existence.

There are no gummy-candy-trees trees.  There are no trees that grow double-chocolate-cookies.  There are no marshmallow-cereal-trees and there are no plants growing out of the ground with mini-cakes hanging off of them.  As a matter of fact, as Michael Pollan says in Food Rules: if a food is called by the same name in every language, “skittles” “coke” “oreos”  then it is NOT food.

Those items are “food like substances” that are man made in factories.  They did not come from the earth.  They did not come from nature.  They came from chemicals invented and smushed together by man.  The very same man who is falling over from a heart attack, losing his hair, has a gut the size of Texas and a terrible case of habitual constipation which isn’t nearly as bad as his body odor.  That man is not having lots of hot sex let me tell you.  Oh no.  He isn’t.

So please.  Ignore the ads and the television commercials that spout tall tales of “added fiber!” and “now with extra calcium”  because it’s all a lie.   It’s fake food pretending to be real food.  The Apple doesn’t have to sell itself on a corner like a 2 cent hooker.  The apple just IS sexy inside and out.  It is a true food, with real natural vitamins just waiting inside for you to enjoy!   It isn’t all made up and trying to be something it’s not.

Next time you go to the grocery store, stick to the outside perimeter of your market.  IGNORE all of the aisles in the middle.  Those aisles are full of FAKE FOOD.  The real foods are the fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, whole grains, etc.   Food did not grow in a bag or a box.  Food is not made in a factory.   Food grows from the earth….on vines…on trees… on plants…you get the idea.

Don’t buy plastic chemical food products that “the man” is selling.  He’s not having any sex, remember?!  Go au natural… and not only will you be healthy, feel amazing and smell divine, but people will want to take your clothes off.

People put all these crazy chemicals and “food like products” into their bodies without even thinking, and then they wonder why they don’t feel well and look well!
