Three things I could live on: olives, raw chocolate, red wine. When I find a store dedicated to one of those items…I have to stop in. To my delight, We Olive in La Jolla is a gem. In my last post, I talked about how herbs, spices, sauces, etc are so important in raw cuisine. Olives, olive oils, balsamics etc can be part of making those sauces and dressings. Olive oil, etc might not be raw, but it can be organic and all natural. I’m not a huge advocate of telling people to be 100% raw (unless they have

my “cheesy” zucchini and daikon “pasta” In the world of raw, there is an essential technique you must master. The art of making “SAUCE”. Sauce, dressings, marinades, salsas, however you want to say it, raw food realizes it’s full potential with sauce. When you COOK food, the flavors of the ingredients meld together during the cooking process. When you UNCOOK food, a la raw-style, you need to create that magical meld yourself. Sure, you can skip it. I can be a pretty simple eater sometimes. I graze throughout the day, goat style. Some random veggies here…some fruit there. A handful
As of tomorrow, I will have been in San Diego for two full weeks. A lot can happen in two weeks. A lot can un-happen in two weeks. Some things that I thought were true turned out..well, not to be. Some things that I never thought would happen, happened. These things are neither good nor bad in the sense that one might think…and I know they have all happened for a reason. There are no accidents. I’ve made new friends.Discovered new places.Stared at the sun setting over the ocean in complete awe and wonderment.I’m working on getting back into a routine
A Raw Is Sexy Guest Post: Loving Yourself From The Outside In By: Casey Lorraine Thomas No matter how imperfect you view your body to be, everyone has varying degrees of the same challenge to deal with: how can I love my body when it doesn’t look like . It can be very hard to love yourself when you are too preoccupied with negative self talk, thinking about your cottage cheese thighs, muffin top, spots, scars, varicose veins or whatever else you judge yourself on. The saddening thing is, if you don’t love or at least accept your body, it
For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt this calling…or “pull”, if you will, to move to California.Walking into a coffee shop to find organic coffee with a basket of stevia next to it sorta confirmed my suspicions. It’s FREAKING AWESOME here.I can walk into a cafe and find 100% fresh all veggie wraps.I can walk into a grocery store and find raw coconut vinegar.I can nap on the beach after work.I can walk to the beach and listen to the ocean.I can have deep conversations with people I just met.Random people say hi to me when they pass me
If you are ever in So Cal, specifically Huntington Beach (or HB as it’s referred to here – seriously everything gets abbreviated… When someone said they were going to PB, I wondered why anyone was going TO Peanut Butter.)…I digress….If you are ever in Huntington Beach you must visit… must must must VISIT 118 Degrees. Swanky, gourmet, delish, upscale, make mmmm sounds all through dinner, RAW Vegan Restaurant. With things like THIS on their menu: and then things like THIS on your plate: some type of raw spring roll I think… these were pistachio pesto stuffed mushrooms…incredible. yup…those are RAW.
That’s what La Jolla means…and for good reason.I’ve never been anywhere that truly feels like a gem on earth. I’ve only been here for a couple days…I’ve barely scratched the surface of this area, and I feel completely overwhelmed. It’s beautiful. All Of The Time.AllOfTheTimeBEAUTIFUL.What is up with that?! I’m used to being cold 6 months out of the year. I’m used to Philadelphia. I’m used to the East Coast weather.I feel relaxed even when I am stressed out. What could possibly stress me out?Everything is new.Which, while exciting and amazing and adventurous, is a little taxing for someone who
That should be a song. I don’t have to listen to California Dreamin’ any longer…because I’m here! It’s beautiful here. My stomach was doing somersaults as we drove down the Pacific Coast Highway. Palm trees, ocean, beach, surf shops…living at the beach is pretty much the coolest thing there is. I’m staying at my sister’s place in Huntington Beach, CA until I find an apartment…checking out an apartment this evening so hopefully it’s the one! My car made it here a couple days ago, so I have all of my stuff! Things seem to be falling into place so far.
