Raw Pumpkin Butter

Oh October- you are right around the corner. How I adore thee.  Sweaters, knee high boots and Halloween costumes! Oh wait. I’m in California. Sweaters, knee high boots and Halloween costumes! And pumpkins. PUMPKINSSSSSSSSSSSSSS So, a week and a half ago I was up in Huntington Beach helping my sister and her husband move into their new place and the day after we did a little HB tour which included Trader Joes.  Why Trader Jose’s?  Because as we drove by I saw giant crates of PUMPKINS outside and I’ve been looking for them down here in San Diego but to

Traditional Acai Bowl

I’m currently loving these smoothie bowls – so easy, so delicious and SO healthy!!!!!!!!!  They’re also called acai bowls and Buddha bowls depending on where you go, but I just call them amazing. Make your favorite smoothie and make it so that it’s thick and not too runny, top it with granola, and your favorite sliced or chopped fruit.  To make the traditional acai version, use a packet of frozen acai puree which you can find at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, blend the frozen acai with a banana and some rice milk or water and that’s your base.

Power Outage in San Diego

Last night the lights went out… EVERYWHERE. Apparently there was an outage from South Orange County, CA (which is north of San Diego), through ALL of San Diego, through some of Mexico and some of Arizona. I remember watching a George Carlin special a while back where he talked about what the world would be like if electricity suddenly disappeared.  No credit cards, no electronic keys would work, elevators, electronically run ANYTHING, prison locks, mental hospital locks – most all digital now or electronic…the picture he painted wasn’t pretty.   When power disappears, things change in an instant.  The traffic

Cheesy Pasta

Yes, you read correctly. Cheesy (no-dairy) pasta (no-pasta). The above is the result of zucchini that has been spiral sliced, organic first cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, and nutritional yeast. What the heck is nutritional yeast?   I’ll let Wikipedia do the defining:    “Nutritional yeast is produced by culturing the yeast with a mixture of sugarcane and beet molasses for a period of 7 days and then harvesting, washing, drying and packaging it. It is commercially available in the form of flakes or as a yellow powder similar in texture to cornmeal, and can be found in the bulk

Fruit Infused Water

Bored with drinking plain water?   Try out some fresh fruit infused waters at home instead!   I found these half gallon mason jars at the local Michael’s Arts & Crafts store for just $2.99!   Use whatever you like – berries, lemon, cucumber, mint leaves, lime, citrus fruits   I fill the jars with fruit and add spring water, and let them sit overnight in the refrigerator.  By morning, the water tastes amazing!      So if you are having trouble getting your daily intake of water in, make some fresh fruit infused

The Last Drop

Certain things are good to the last drop. Water. Green juice. Tea Smoothies Raw banana milkshakes Coffee (oh  – so sue me, I like my coffee – I don’t have it every day, and I only drink it black or with stevia) Other things are not so good to the last drop. Green smoothies that you mess up by adding mustard greens Almond milk gone bad Crazy shots with silly names  Liquor Kegs Wine (In my case, it’s the wine.) Or…it WAS the wine. I’ve quit drinking. Given it up, although giving it up makes it sound like a sacrifice,
