In 2008 I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself.
I wanted more energy. I wanted to lose weight and feel great. I wanted to stop getting sinus infections and winter colds. So, I changed my lifestyle. I made it happen. I transitioned to a high raw, plant based, whole foods lifestyle. I read every book I could get my hands on about raw foods, whole foods and plant based nutrition. I obtained my Certification in Plant Based Nutrition with a focus on disease prevention. I achieved my personal goals. When my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, I knew I could help. It’s three years later and she is still cancer-free and has kicked cancer’s ass with a plant based lifestyle. I have such a passion for helping others to be the healthiest version of themselves, so that they can live the life they want to live. I’ve written meal plans and recipes and e-books, all to help others be healthy on the inside.
I’m a firm believer that we should never stop learning. We should never cease to be curious and learn everything that we can to satisfy our thirst for knowledge. If we want to change the world, we have to first create that change within ourselves.
With that being said, there’s something I still want to change. I’ve always wished there were more vegan personal trainers. I’ve wanted to be able to train with someone who understood how I ate and knew how to tailor my plant based lifestyle so that I could achieve the physique that I wanted – in only the healthiest way possible. I’ve worked with different trainers and it’s definitely a challenge when your trainer isn’t on board with your nutrition. I realized I couldn’t just wish for more vegan, plant based, whole food, personal trainers.
If I want to see that change in the world, I’m going to have to BE that change.
So, I recently signed up to be a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine).
I know that in order to be that amazing vegan personal trainer that people are looking for, I need to master my own body. I’ve learned how to be healthy from the inside out but now I need to know how to tweak my own plant based nutrition and fitness regimen to achieve my personal awesome-body goals, so that I can teach others how to do it too. I’m not going to be a trainer who tells someone to do something that I don’t do myself. I have to BE the change. I’m so passionate about internal whole body health from the inside out and fitness and nutrition go hand in hand. They are synergistic. One doesn’t work as well without the other. I’ve always said that I would never compromise my internal health to achieve a certain aesthetic and that will always remain the same. How we look doesn’t mean a THING if we aren’t first healthy on the inside. If we don’t have a healthy internal environment, it doesn’t matter what we look like on the outside or what size we are or how fit and in shape we are. To me, it renders the aesthetic null and void the moment our health has been sacrificed to achieve it. I want to achieve the combination of total whole body health AND total whole body fitness. If someone is vegan, raw, plant based, high raw, vegetarian, and comes to me and says, hey, I want my body to look this way, and achieve this muscle tone, and this shape, then I want to be able to show them how to do that.
To accomplish this goal of being the change myself, and the goal of being a rockstar vegan trainer, well…I needed a trainer…and not just any trainer.
Meet Eric McGee of Everfit
From my first meeting with Eric, I knew I had the right guy. He was supportive, enthusiastic and never told me once that I was crazy. (Trust me, I’ve heard that one more than I can count.) He has vegan and vegetarian clients and knows first hand how it works and how it’s done. This was such a breath of fresh air. I’ve come up against some trainers in the past who thought I was bananas for wanting to train on a plant based diet let alone BE a trainer who specialized in it. I’ve had trainers flat out refuse to train me due to my lifestyle of eating whole foods. I’ve had trainers tell me there was no point and that I wouldn’t succeed.
I told Eric exactly what I wanted to accomplish, as well as my history with a few trainers in the past and he said, “I am totally on board! We have a challenge ahead of us that many won’t tackle because it’s not traditional. I know you are passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and that is why I know you will succeed.“
I am ecstatic to be able to work with Eric to achieve my goals. There is so much that I can learn from him that will not only help me to accomplish personal goals, but will help me to be the kind of trainer for my future clients that I see myself being.
So, if your wish is for a personal trainer who specializes in plant based lifestyles – who is whole foods, plant based and soy-free, well, I’m going to deliver. I’m thrilled to be able to share this entire journey with all of you.
